Overview

The Headway Pylori UBT kit is a reagent kit for the urea breath test, used for the in-vitro diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection. Applicable for all ages and types of subjects, including pregnant women and young children.

Key Features

  • Gold standard for detecting active H. pylori infection
  • Non-invasive, safe, and well-tolerated by all age groups
  • Suitable for diagnosis and post-treatment monitoring
  • Tests the entire gastric mucosa for active infection
  • Registered in Hong Kong under HK-63335

Clinical Applications

H. pylori is a Gram-negative micro-aerophilic bacterium and a Class I carcinogen of gastric cancer according to the WHO. More than 50% of the world's population harbours H. pylori in their upper GI tract.

The urea breath test detects active infections, supports post-treatment monitoring, and provides a comprehensive assessment of the entire gastric mucosa — without the discomfort or risks associated with endoscopy or tissue biopsy.

Test Procedure

The patient collects a baseline breath sample, ingests the C-13 urea capsule with water, waits 20 minutes, and then provides a post-dose breath sample. The variation in ¹³C isotope abundance (DOB) determines whether H. pylori is present.

Patients should avoid antibiotics and bismuth subsalicylate for four weeks before testing, proton pump inhibitors for two weeks, and food or drink for four hours prior to the test.
